At ibis Styles Delft City Centre, we believe a comfortable, welcoming hotel stay can go hand in hand with considered choices for people and the planet.
For us, sustainability is not only about big projects. It is about the everyday choices we make: in our guest rooms, at breakfast, in housekeeping and behind the scenes.
We are proud to say that ibis Styles Delft City Centre is certified Green Key Gold, the highest level of the international Green Key eco-label.
Green Key is an international eco-label for sustainable businesses in the hospitality sector. To earn it, hotels must meet strict requirements on energy, water, waste, cleaning, purchasing, food and drink, and mobility.
We hold the Green Key Gold label. It shows that sustainability is a permanent part of the way we run our hotel.
There are solar panels on the roof of our hotel. We use the energy they generate to help power our public areas, so that wherever we can, the hotel’s day-to-day operations run on renewable energy.
Why leave the lights on when nobody is there? In our guest rooms, a key card switch turns the lights off as soon as the room card is taken out of its holder, and in our public areas the lighting is controlled automatically wherever possible. With 82 rooms and 365 days a year, small measures like these add up to a big difference.
A room does not need a full clean every day of a longer stay. Guests can choose to skip housekeeping and, if they are part of the programme, collect ALL Reward points. We also encourage guests to reuse their towels. Much of our daily cleaning is done with ozonated water, so we use far fewer traditional cleaning products.
At our breakfast buffet we avoid single-use packaging as far as we can, using larger packs, dispensers and reusable alternatives instead. We also separate our waste in the hotel, so that materials can be reprocessed or recycled wherever possible.
Does everything really need to be printed? We do not think so. Much of our room and hotel information is available on the TV in your room, and we would be happy to email your invoice rather than print it. It is a small choice for one guest, but over a year it saves a lot of paper.
Even something as everyday as toilet paper has been thought through: we use toilet paper from The Good Roll, made from recycled materials. The Good Roll also campaigns for better sanitation. When we do need to print, we look for more sustainable materials and products wherever we can. As part of Accor, we benefit from partnerships and purchasing agreements in which sustainability is becoming ever more important.
For us, sustainability also means looking carefully at where our products come from. Wherever possible, we choose local suppliers from Delft and the surrounding area. For example, we work with Stadsbakkerij De Diamanten Ring, a Delft bakery that makes fresh bread and pastries by hand every day. Our cheese comes from just around the corner too, from ’t Kaas Lokaal in Delft.
ibis Styles Delft City Centre is right next to Delft station, so you can walk from the train to our front door in a few minutes, and the historic centre is within walking distance too. Leaving the car at home really is no hardship. Our Green Key Gold label shows where we stand today, but we will not stop there. We keep looking for new ways to reduce our impact.
